Our advice
Tell them it is there
Phone Tracker runs quietly, and plenty of parents keep it that way. Our advice, after years of these conversations, is to tell your child the phone is monitored. A monitored phone changes behaviour before anything goes wrong, and "I will always be able to find you" is a promise, not a threat. Teenagers who know the deal argue less about it than you would expect.
The law is on your side either way: a parent or guardian may monitor a device used by their own child under 18. Once they turn 18, or if the phone belongs to someone else's child, the rules change. The Is it legal? page gives you a sixty-second answer.
